SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TRAINING
IF YOU CURRENTLY POSSESS A VALID OR EXPIRED TEACHING CERTIFICATE, you are exempt from this training requirement. Please submit your online application (see below) and a copy of your Teaching Certificate. You will be contacted by Personnel to pay a fingerprinting fee of $45.00 (cash or money order) as part of your reference check. Once your criminal background history has been received and your application is approved, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment to complete in-processing as a substitute teacher.

Before you begin, you are encouraged to complete the SubEssentials™ introductory course which is designed to encourage, motivate, and introduce you to the great world of substitute teaching with the general expectations, useful strategies in the classroom, and the rewards for becoming a substitute teacher. Jasper County Schools requires substitute teacher applicants to complete the SubSkills™ online training program. Successful completion of this training program is required prior to applying for a substitute teacher position.
Cost of the training:
All substitute applicants will be charged $39.95 for the training. Payments may be made online by credit card, or by check, or money order. The training fee provides the applicant one-year online access to:
(1) The twenty-five (25) minute SubOrientation™ video.
(2) The online Substitute Teacher Handbook which contains both audio and video selections to enhance understanding of the principles presented.
(3) A variety of downloadable forms, reports, and over 75 activities that can be used in the classrooms.
(4) The online SubAssessment™ which is designed to “assess” or evaluate how well the material has been mastered.
The training and assessment may be taken only on the Internet and includes 6-10 hours of interactive SubSkills™ training. However, if you prefer not to study at a computer, you may purchase a handbook for an additional $19.95. It takes an average of thirty minutes to complete each of the five SubAssessment™ training sections. Candidates may take the SubAssessment™ a maximum of four times. A passing score of at least 85% is required.
To take the training:
The trainging consists of classroom management, teaching strategies, planning, and other instructional skills and procedures. Substitute applicants are required to complete and pass the SubSkills™ online training assessment. The SubSkills™ online training and assessment may be completed at:

To apply for a Substitute Teacher position:
Once training is completed, print a copy of the SubDiploma™. Please submit your online application (see below) with a copy of your SubDiploma™ and verification of your highest level of education. You will be contacted by Personnel to pay a fingerprinting fee of $45.00 (cash or money order) as part of your reference check. Once your criminal background history has been received and your application is approved, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment to complete in-processing as a substitute teacher.
