  • Recommended Full Mileage Rate Rollback for FY 23 to JCBOE

At the May 10, 2022 Jasper County Board of Education Regular Business Meeting, Superintendent Kenny Garland recommended to the Board of Education a full rollback of the mileage rate for the fiscal year budget 2023.  Superintendent Garland stated, "Due to  the growth in the construction across Jasper County, revenues for the school system at a full rollback of the mileage rate are reasonable to meet the demands of overall operations."  The system's budget proposal also highlighted the addition of 11.5 classroom teaching positions in order to meet the growth in overall student population. Garland noted, "Jasper County High School will increase by approximately 100 students next year as a small class of 22 graduates and a larger freshmen cohort enters high school (200 students),"

Also, he noted next year's rising 6th grade cohort at Jasper County Middle School is projected to be at 225 students. "With the growth comes challenges and with the challenges comes different expectations.  However, our system is committed to meeting the demands as we move forward.  Our system has clearly demonstrated during the peak of the pandemic the commitment for improving educational opportunities and I firmly believe our community embraces our commitment to improvement."

The preliminary mileage rate  proposed for FY 23 is projected to be at 14.789 which is a 2.049 decrease from the FY 22 approved rate.

The proposed total budget will be advertised in the Monticello News during the weeks of June 2nd and June 9th.

The first budget hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 14th at 6PM and final approval of the budget will be on Tuesday, June 21st at 6PM in the Jasper County Board of Education meeting room.
