Dear WPES Families & Friends,
I am excited and honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Washington Park Elementary School. I began my teaching career here at Washington Park Elementary 17 years ago. I worked as a Special Education teacher for 4 years and then moved to the Putnam County School System and worked as a Special Education teacher for 6 years and an Assistant Principal for 7 years. I am thrilled to return back to Washington Park to continue my journey as Principal.
The teachers and staff members have been working hard getting ready for the new school year! We have made a few positive changes this year that I would like to share with you. First, all students will receive STEAM through their activity classes. We will have a STEAM focus for each grade level this year so every student will enjoy fun and engaging activities in their classes as well as a STEAM club day twice a month. In order to communicate more consistently we will use Class DOJO in all classes. Also, parents will be able to check grades weekly in Infinite Campus. As a parent you will also receive a weekly newsletter about the activities for the week. It is my goal for all parents to be active participants in their child’s education. I am hopeful that the communication pieces that have been put in place will ensure you are able to do this.
I understand that the learning environment must be safe, positive and engaging to ensure high levels of learning occurs. A team approach is necessary to create and maintain that desired learning environment. Please know that I take personal ownership in all of the students to ensure their success. I will work with all staff members throughout the year on positive communication with parents, coworkers, community members, and students. It is also my goal that all situations are handled with the student’s best interest first. I look forward to a fantastic year focused on the success of all students.
