Mrs. Kimberly Attaberry

Welcome to 2nd grade at JCPS!  This year marks my fourth year teaching at JCPS and my thirteenth year teaching.  My past teaching experience includes years in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. Currently, I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Early Childhood Education.  I also have an endorsement in Gifted Education and I am also certified in English Education for grades 6-12.

My husband and I have one son, Rory, who is in fourth grade.  We also have a smart and playful Doberman named Jax.  Some of my favorite things are reading, writing, hiking, football and traveling. On weekends, my family and I enjoy hiking and spending time together. In Fall, we are always busy watching football, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. We love going to games Between the Hedges, but we also love traveling to away games as much as possible.

My personal philosophy for my classroom is simple.  I believe all children can learn, but not all children learn in the same way.  I believe learning takes place in many forms, but the best learning happens when students are engaged in their learning environment.  I strive to make my classroom a fun and exciting place to come each day.

I have always set high expectations for my students.  I do not allow my students to say “I can’t” because I know they can.  I expect my students to do their best at all times and think independently—not to rely on what others say, think or do.  I teach by asking questions, having students explain what they were thinking or how they arrived at their answer.  I expect my students to listen and follow classroom and school rules and expectations.  I also expect my students to respect themselves, each other and me.  I believe students should also respect personal belongings of others.

In second grade, your child will be expected to be much more independent.  While this may seem overwhelming at first, it will extremely benefit your child as he or she prepares for third grade.

There are so many fun things we will be doing this year!  I can't wait for your child to amaze you throughout the school year, so please check for updates!

Please take a moment to look around my website.  I will be adding more information throughout the school year, and if you ever have a concern or question, please email me or send a message via our class Remind app.  Working together, we can make this your child's best year ever!
