What are the qualifications for becoming a Substitute Teacher?

  • Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Applicants must have a clear GCIC criminal background screening (information regarding how to complete this is included in the application)
  • Applicants must successfully complete a JCCS’s two-day Substitute Training session

How to become a Substitute Teacher?

Seven Simple Steps
1.  Go to the Jasper County Charter System website and complete an application for Substitute Teacher, when posted.
2.  Submit a completed GCIC Consent Form (criminal background screening).
3.  Register for the two-day training sessions to be held in the district at the following link: JCCS Substitute Training Registration
4.  Attend and participate successfully in JCCS’ Substitute Teacher two-day training session.
5.  Complete and pass a criminal background check by fingerprinting conducted by the local sheriff’s department.  The cost of the criminal background check is $44.00 and must be paid (cash or money order) by the applicant during the training.
6.  Upon successful completion of the above steps, your application will be submitted to the Jasper County Board of Education for approval.
7.  Upon approval by the Jasper County Board of Education, you may begin to serve as a substitute teacher.
