What is CTAE?
CTAE stands for Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education. It is a term used to describe educational programs that
combine academic and technical skills to prepare students for post-secondary education or careers.
CTAE programs, or pathways, equip students with workforce skills needed for post-secondary success. Pathways consist
of a series of three to four specialized courses that allow students to acquire critical job skills and earn industry
credentials while mastering academic content. Relevant, student-centered learning is at the core of each pathway
offered. The Career and Technical Instruction program (CTI) provides students with disabilities the opportunity to
participate in CTAE classes to develop job-entry skills, and leadership abilities.
The following CTAE Pathways are offered at Jasper County High School:

• Agriculture
• Audio, Video, Technology and Film
• Biotechnology
• Business Management and Administration
• Early Childhood Education
• Engineering and Technology
• Entrepreneurship
• Healthcare Science

Two pathways, Business and Agriculture, are offered at Jasper County Middle School, and Washington Park Elementary
offers one CTAE class that familiarizes students with pathways and careers.
In addition to the pathways offered at Jasper County High School, Work-Based Learning is an opportunity for high school
students to put their skills to work. It includes a range of activities like job shadowing, internships, and apprenticeships in
a traditional workplace. Local and regional businesses hire students in real-world work settings to teach students skills
and knowledge while earning high school course credits. This experience helps to bridge the gap between classroom
education and career opportunities. The goal of Work-Based Learning is to help students build career readiness and
make a connection between their academic studies and future employment.
Each CTAE pathway is supported by a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO). These organizations provide
leadership training and career development opportunities for students enrolled in CTAE programs in middle and high
schools. Members participate in activities such as conferences, award programs, service projects, and competitive events
at the local, state, and national levels. The following CTSOs are offered at the high school:
• FFA – National FFA Organization, originally known as Future Farmers of America
• TSA – Technology Student Association
• HOSA – Health Occupations Students of America
• FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America
• FCCLA – Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America
• CTI – Career and Technical Instruction
FFA and FBLA are active organizations at the middle school, as well.
Statistically, CTAE students in Georgia and Jasper County have shown success in improved graduation rates and
postsecondary placement. The most recent CTAE Academic Impact Report shows that Jasper County High School CTAE
students who completed two or more CTAE courses showed a 75% reading readiness rate, a 100% graduation rate, and a
98.8% post-secondary placement rate. Jasper County rated higher than the state average in all three categories.
Business and industry members are encouraged to partnership with us to offer guidance, training, and employment
opportunities to our students. Each pathway is supported by an advisory committee that offers support and advice to

the CTAE programs. Advisory committee members contribute knowledge that allows the school system to stay up to
date with the constantly changing labor market and local/region demand.
Parents of Jasper County students are encouraged to talk with their children about their interests in career pathways to
support the schools’ efforts. This includes helping their child explore career and pathway options, discussing career
related skills such as teamwork and problem-solving and aligning interests with courses offered. Make sure your child
completes three courses in a career pathway before graduation to help students navigate their way to greater success in
college and career.
