Gifted
The Jasper County Charter School System is committed to fostering the continued growth and development of gifted and talented students. This commitment is reflected in a curriculum that both extends and enriches traditional learning, with a focus on nurturing independent learning, effective problem-solving, and creative thinking. Through purposeful instructional strategies, the system aims to meet the unique academic and intellectual needs of these students.
To support this mission, the district has established several broad goals that serve as the foundation for specific objectives within the gifted education program. These goals include integrating basic skills with higher-level thinking skills, providing a differentiated curriculum tailored to individual student strengths, and offering opportunities for independent research and study. Instruction is designed to be enriched with content that is complex, interdisciplinary, and comprehensive.
Furthermore, the program emphasizes the creation of original student work, encouraging learners to explore existing concepts and generate new ideas. The curriculum promotes intellectual curiosity, originality, fluency of thought, independence, and conceptual depth. In addition, students are given opportunities to develop and refine leadership skills, preparing them to be innovative and influential contributors in their future academic and professional pursuits.
All gifted education curricula must align with the State Board of Education (SBOE) approved standards. Local Board of Education (BOE) curricula are required to incorporate strategies that foster the development of cognitive, research, reference, and metacognitive skills at each grade level. These elements are implemented through principles of differentiation, ensuring that instruction remains responsive to the needs and abilities of gifted learners.
