Mrs. Maria Brown

Mrs. Brown's Homeroom Class (Google Classroom)Mrs. Brown is the STEAM lead at Washington Park Elementary.  She coordinates activities and resources that connect students, families and the community to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.  She fell in love with the teaching and learning, Cycle for Results, and the Growth Mindset in Rockdale County, and has been committed to helping to create communities of learners that share her zest for knowledge.  Mrs. Brown has been an educator for over 20 years, and has taught children as young as kindegarten all the way up to adult.  She has served the community - at - large as a volunteer, team leader, troop leader and consultant.  Mrs. Brown's teaching philosophy is to help people and to share the secret of the power of learning with others.  She pioneered a K-5 science fair in 2009 where 1,000 students from ages 5-12 prepared projects and experiments.  She has been in Jasper for four years on third grade.

Her experience in business development, marketing, and communty relations enables her to connect and strengthen the ties that bind us: making the world better by making ourselves and the people around us better.  Her favorite things to do are to spend time with her family: a husband of over 20 years, and two daughters, who are both STEAM learners.  Mrs. Brown taught her oldest daughter to read music when she was four using the Disney Read and Sing-a-long books.  More recently, she shared her love of cubing with her youngest daughter at the inaugural STEAM Expo, here in Jasper County. There is no way to measure the amount of joy Mrs. Brown walks in as a teacher.  She dreamt as a kindegardener in Mrs. Jackson's class of being a teacher who could make her students feel loved.

Her hobbies are reading, and all things connected to the arts and travleing to different countries.  She visits a museum in every country or city that she visits. Her dream trip is to Alaska to see the Northern Lights (Aurora borealis).
