Mr. Joe Barkson

Welcome to Señor Barkson's web page. I have returned to teaching after a 20-year absence. From 1995 to 1999 I taught high school Spanish in Butts and Henry counties, and was lured away from the profession by an opportunity to become a full-time food writer and "dot com guy." After spending three years as a substitute teacher in Jasper County, I realized that the classroom was my true calling. I am delighted that Jasper County Charter System has allowed me to rejoin the profession I enjoy most.

I have traveled extensively and lived in nine states (plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and five countries on three continents. I began learning Spanish when my family moved to South American when I was ten years old, and continued my studies of Spanish as I earned a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. I subsequently earned a Master of International Management degree from The American Graduate School of International Management (better know simply as Thunderbird) in Glendale, Arizona, followed by a career in computer sales and marketing from 1977 to 1995.

It is truly a pleasure to serve the community I have lived in for almost 30 years, and I look forward to meeting more of the fine students and parents of Jasper County.
