On September 9, 2020, we were alerted at Jasper County Pre-K to a child/staff member who was diagnosed with COVID-19. We have been working closely with local public health officials to ensure the proper recommendations are followed to isolate the child/staff member diagnosed with COVID-19, identify close contacts, and clean and disinfect areas of the childcare facility. Through our efforts of contract tracing, we have identified all parties potentially exposed to the child/staff member who was diagnosed with COVID-19. They have been recommended to quarantine at home until September 21, 2020.
The Jasper County Charter System and the Jasper County Health Department will continue to work together to monitor the situation. -
On September 3, 2020, JCCS was informed of a positive case of COVID-19 at Washington Park Elementary School. In working with the recommended guidelines established by the Georgia Department of Health, it was determined no students were potentially exposed to the confirmed positive case. However, through contact tracing, four additional employees of JCCS (from multiple schools) were placed in quarantine due to potential exposure with the positive case identified. Two of the four employees were exposed to the positive during non-school related activities while the other two were exposed during school hours. As a precaution, the classroom was sanitized after school hours by JCCS operational staff and will not be reopened until after the Labor Day weekend . The Jasper County Charter System and Georgia Department of Health are working together to monitor this situation and will apply additional protocols if needed.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, JCCS was informed of a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 involving a staff member at Jasper County Pre-K. The employee does not directly work with students therefore no students were placed in quarantine. Through contact tracing efforts, another employee was placed in quarantine due to potential exposure with the presumptive positive case identified. The workspace of the identified employee was sanitized after school hours by JCCS operational staff.

At JCCS, we are committed to the safety and well-being of OUR students and all stakeholders. As a community, it is imperative that we work together to minimize the spread of COVID-19. The Georgia Department of Education released its K-12 Recovery Plan as a guideline for schools and districts to take the appropriate steps and precautions for students and staff to return to school. Georgia's K-12 Recovery Plan (rev071320)
The Jasper County Board of Education will develop a plan based on these guidelines that can be realistically implemented while promoting safety. More information will follow in the next few weeks.
We are looking forward to a safe and healthy start to the 2020-2021 school year. Let's all work together to defeat COVID-19 in our community.

Consumer Warning from the FDA Regarding Hand Sanitizer
The FDA is warning consumers and health care providers that the agency has seen a sharp increase in hand sanitizer products that are labeled to contain ethanol (also known as ethyl alcohol) but that have tested positive for methanol contamination. Methanol, or wood alcohol, is a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested and can be life-threatening when ingested. The agency is aware of adults and children ingesting hand sanitizer products contaminated with methanol that has led to recent adverse events including blindness, hospitalizations, and death.
Methanol is not an acceptable active ingredient for hand sanitizers and must not be used due to its toxic effects. FDA’s investigation of methanol in certain hand sanitizers is ongoing. The agency will provide additional information as it becomes available.
Consumers who have been exposed to hand sanitizer containing methanol and are experiencing symptoms should seek immediate treatment for potential reversal of toxic effects of methanol poisoning. Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death. Although all persons using these products on their hands are at risk for methanol poisoning, young children who accidently ingest these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute, are most at risk.

Did you know that the greatest risk to a child isn’t riding a bus, but approaching or leaving one. STOP means STOP! As you’ll see in this video, it’s just not a bus you’re stopping for, it’s a bus full of students.

The lesser joys of progress is that it takes time and effort to make it right. Please pardon our progress at Westview Park until the contractor is complete with the Park to Park Project. With the exception of landscaping later in the winter/spring, Funderburg Park is open from daylight to dusk as usual. Thank you in advance for your understanding in keeping our residents safe.
